No, I didn’t misspell action. Key #6 to Increasing Your Value…More Reflection and Introspection! Following every action, whether with a client (or spouse), chairing a company meeting, writing a proposal or coaching an employee (i.e. everything you do), ask yourself these two questions: What did I do right? and What would I do differently?
Note, I didn’t say “What did I do wrong?” You cannot motivate yourself on a negative and by responding to these questions phrased in the former manner, you are actually creating positive affirmations (i.e. a pat on the back).
Here’s how to put this into practice: Immediately following an ACTION, while it is fresh on your mind, write down 1-3 things you did right and 1-3 things you will do differently the next time you are doing the same thing. Then, just prior to the next time, review your list and decide how you will ACT to achieve the same or a better outcome. By regularly contemplating your thoughts, feelings, sensations, and what you did or did not do, with regards to your actions and interactions, you will be able to decide if you should stick to your current way of doing something or make changes to achieve better results.
By practicing these two questions, you will truly be demonstrating WISDOM!
